FARO S70

The FARO Focus S70 is a portable and high-speed phase-shift 3D terrestrial laser scanner designed to capture detailed and highly accurate point cloud datasets of complex objects, environments, and buildings. The S70 scanner is capable of capturing measurement data at a range of 70 meters and can collect up to 976,000 points per second with an accuracy of up to 1mm.

The scanner is equipped with an 8 megapixel HDR camera to capture color imagery that can be merged with the scan data. The point cloud data captured with this scanner can be used in conjunction with multiple 3D software applications to generate a variety of products including, 3D animations and meshes, scaled imagery, CAD-based 2D and 3D digital drawings, and others.


FARO Edge Arm

The FARO Edge Arm is a portable, laser line triangulation 3D scanner that permits for the rapid collection of point cloud data in high resolution and with an accuracy of up to 0.024mm. The handheld laser line probe is affixed to an articulating arm and tripod system allowing for the easy maneuvering around objects during data collection. This scanner is particularly useful for the scanning of museum-curated objects and artifacts in high resolution and detail. The data captured with the FARO Edge Arm is compatible with a variety of 3D software applications that can be used to generate 3D meshes and animations, 3D renders, and other project-related products.



Aerial Photogrammetry and Imaging


UAV Phantom 4 Pro+

The Phantom 4 Pro features dual compass modules and dual IMU units, making it more reliable when compared to many hexacopters and octocopers. Compasses and IMUs are important sensors to ensure a stable flight and the Phantom 4 Pro constantly compares the data it receives through both pairs. This data is run through advanced algorithms to check accuracy and any inaccurate data is simply discarded without affecting flight, keeping flight steady and reliable.

Phantom 4 Pro+ is equipped with a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor capable of shooting 4K/60fps video and Burst Mode stills at 14 fps. The adoption of titanium alloy and magnesium alloy construction increases the rigidity of the airframe and reduces weight, making the Phantom 4 Pro similar in weight to the Phantom 4. The FlightAutonomy system adds dual rear vision sensors and infrared sensing systems for a total of 5-direction of obstacle sensing and 4-direction of obstacle avoidance.

FlightAutonomy is expanded with an additional set of high-resolution stereo vision sensors placed at the rear in addition to the pair placed at the front as well as infrared sensing systems placed on the left and right sides. This network creates a total of five-directions of obstacle sensing and four-directions of obstacle avoidance, protecting the Phantom 4 Pro from more obstacles and giving filmmakers the confidence to capture more complex images.


GPS

GDH uses a Trimble Geo 7x centimeter –level GNSS receiver with an external Zephyr 3 Antenna for recording drone and laser scanner Ground Control Points (GCPs) and also for general GIS mapping for documentation purposes.

In Spain we use Virtual Reference Station (VRS) networks provided free of charge by the Instuito Geográfico Nacional for real-time data correction which typically provides a horizontal accuracy of 2cm and a vertical accuracy of 3cm. Control and GIS data are imported and postprocessed in Trimble Pathfinder Office (PFO). Typically, these data are exported from PFO in ESRI Shapefile format in UTM coordinates and as Google Earth KMZs in WGS Lat/Long.



Cameras


Canon and Sony

GDH uses Canon 5d Mark IV and Canon 5DS cameras. These give us an active range from 30 to 50 mpx, and a suite of options with full-frame sensors on each.

GDH also uses both the Sony a7r iii and the Sony a7 iii. At 45 mpx and 24 mpx, these state-of-the-art mirrorless full-frames cameras provide considerable versatility in a range of environmental conditions.


We have a wide range of Canon, Sony, and Zeiss lenses, filters and accessories. We also have professional lighting set ups and can document sites in near total darkness when necessary.

An extensive array of tripods and extension poles allow photogrammetric documentation to 6m or more.

Insta360 Pro VR

The Insta360 Pro VR camera uses six 200° fisheye lenses to produce professional quality 360 degree immersive spherical images and video. This camera can capture immersive video at a resolution of 8k at 30fps, or 4k at a rate of 100fps, and 3D video at a resolution of 6k at a rate of 30fps. Still image are captured at a resolution of 8k in RAW and JPEG format with the added ability to use the HDR mode for maximum image detail and quality.

The Insta360 Pro also features four integrated microphones to capture 360-degree spherical sound, and real-time image stabilization allowing the ability to live-stream smooth steady 2D and 3D video. The images and video produced by this camera are used to create online tours and VR content for our projects.

GoPro Hero 6

GoPro Hero 6 action cameras are used extensively on projects to document fieldwork and to produce website and social media content. The Hero 6 is small, lightweight, rugged, and waterproof making it an excellent choice for a wide variety of tough environmental conditions. This versatile GPS equipped camera is capable of capturing 4k resolution video, RAW and JPEG still images, and time lapse video. Additionally, the wide variety of mounting accessories allows the Hero 5 to be used in any situation.

Other technologies include an Ortery lightbox, turntable and software for photogrammetric captures of artifacts and other small specimens.

Raise 3D N2 Plus Printer Builder

The RAISE3D N2 PLUS FDM 3D printer supports our in house 3D printing projects. This high resolution dual extruder printer offers a large build area, has an easy to use touch screen interface, and the ability to print using a wide range of material making it one of the most versatile and user friendly 3D printers available today.

3D prints of selected objects from our projects are available on loan for educational purposes. Maximum build size is 24 x 12 x 12 inches (61 x 30.5 x 30.5 cm).

HP Designjet Z5200 Printer

For document printing we use a HP Designjet Z5200 plotter for posters, educational materials, printing CAD drawings and site plans, and producing architectural overviews.
