The so-called “Castillo de los Cristianos” or “Castillo de D. Alonso” is a small fort located in front of the Salvatierra Castle in the municipality of Calzada de Calatrava (Ciudad Real, Spain). Although its mention in the written sources is scarce and very late, it is most likely that it was a stepfather castle of Salvatierra built in the late twelfth or early thirteenth century, coinciding with the stage of occupation of this castle by the Order of Calatrava and its great role in the moments before the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (1212). No archaeological excavation of the site has been carried out, although the remains of a dry moat that protected the entrance, a keel wall and a practically missing tower or watchtower are clearly observed. Its material factory consisted of a pebble masonry plinth locked with a strong lime mortar on which the rest of the wall with an earth wall was erected.
