Global Digital Heritage at Digital Heritage – International Congress 2025 in Siena

This past week, Global Digital Heritage (GDH) took part in the Digital Heritage – International Congress 2025 in Siena, and what a week it has been!

Our president, Dr. Herbert Maschner, delivered one of the most talked–about presentations of the entire congress: “A Guerrilla Manifesto”. His words challenged the prevailing focus on endless debates over standardization and instead urged the community to prioritize large–scale, immediate documentation of cultural heritage. The impact was undeniable — sparking new conversations and shifting perspectives among experts and practitioners alike.

At our booth, we welcomed more than 300 visitors who came to learn about our mission and projects. Attendees explored our freely accessible online collection of over 10,000 3D objects, tested our immersive metaverse experiences, and got a first look at LidArc, our ambitious five–year project to expand the use of aerial LiDAR in archaeology worldwide. A highlight for many was the chance to see and touch a brand–new 3D printed artifact from our collections unveiled each day of the congress.

We are deeply grateful to the incredible GDH team — eleven dedicated colleagues who traveled to Siena — for making this an unforgettable event. Their passion and expertise made our presence shine.

Global Digital Heritage remains committed to one simple mission: making cultural heritage accessible to all, through open data, innovative technology, and global collaboration. Heritage documentation for the world.
