The Castle of La Estrella is located in Montiel (Spain) at the top of a small hill. During the Middle Ages the castle was part of a much wider set of structures and buildings, some are being discovered thanks to the excavations that the University of Castilla La Mancha currently carries out in this place. Although the castle was initially built in the Islamic era, it was later expanded and renovated by the Christians after the conquest of this territory.
In 1369, this castle served as a refuge for King Pedro I of Castile in the war against his stepbrother, Count Enrique de Trastámara (future Henry II). The castle was besieged by the troops of Henry II and finally King Pedro I was killed.
