Here are 2 large underground burial grounds (hypogea), the front one being partially destroyed. Besides some tombs on the ground (formae) and on the walls (loculi), both chambers mainly have arched niches for burials (arcosolia), distributed rather regularly on the walls. Both rooms are currently dated in the 3rd century A.D. and belong to the oldest part of that level. While the front room has no figurative paintings, the rear one has many figurative paintings both in the axially symmetrically arranged fields of the in very high quality painted ceiling and in several arcosolia. Some of the depictions are among the earliest in Christian art!
