Portrait of the emperor Marcus Aurelius from the site of Tarraco (Tarragona, Spain), dated in the mid-2nd century AD. Official portrait of the young emperor Marcus Aurelius aged 23, a model that was used until he ascended the throne (161 AD). Found during the excavation of the so-called ”Cartanya well” in the Tarraco Colonial Forum sector. Made in Luni-Carrara marble.
