Amphora discovered at Mleiha, Sharjah (UAE). This amphora was found in a plundered tomb (FG-2) close to the monumental “Tomb of Amud”, together with iron armament, glazed Mesopotamian vessels and bronze vessels. The shape and fabric indicates it is of South Spanish origin (coastline of ancient Baetica). This type of amphora can be dated in the late 1st century BCE or early 1st century CE and was presumably used for the trade in garum, a fermented fish sauce that was considered a Roman delicacy.
