The construction of the portuguese fort of Khor Fakkan was ordered by Gaspar Pereira Leite, around the year 1620, with a triangular shape and also had three triangular bastions, in each corner of the plant, as well as supposedly, a circular bastion at the center to protect a well (this one documented by the archaeological studies at the site).

According to the Livro das Fortalezas do Estado da Índia (Book of Fortresses of the State of India), the fortress had no artillery, but had in place a garrison of thirty lascarin soldiers recruited from the local population, ruled by a muqaddam who had the same duties as a captain. The same documental source mentions Khor Fakkan as the best port in the Sea of Oman, with around 400 people (100 neighbours) living in it.
