A part of a corridor in the upper level of the catacombs shows different kinds of tombs: rectangular holes (loculi), an arched niche (arcosolium) with 2 tombs and – bottom left – the entrance of a cubiculum (a small burial chamber). In most cases, the interior decoration is lost. Fragments of paintings are only preserved in the area of the arcosolium, namely a medallion with a cross and the Christogram and the Greek letters Alpha and Omega (Symbols for the beginning and the end). The paintings are dated to the Early Medieval Ages. The catacombs itself were used for burials from the 2nd century AD to the Middle Ages. GDH Area 6
